With texts by Gian Antonio Golin (professor at the Sorbonne in Paris) and photos by Tranquillo Cortiana (true hunter of images and visual sensations), we present the new guide to the Rotonda, available in our bookshop in Italian and English at the price of €10 .
Thus, on 21 September 1786, Goethe describes Villa “la Rotonda” in his “Journey to Italy”: “Today I went to see the splendid house called “La Rotonda”, located on a pleasant hill half an hour's drive from the city . It is a quadrangular building that contains a round room lit from above. It is accessed by four staircases, and at each entrance there is a vestibule made up of six Corinthian columns. Architecture has perhaps never created anything more luxurious.” Today Gian Antonio Golin, in "La Rotonda di Andrea Palladio" illustrates the villa, enchanting the reader with a detailed vision of the client, the interiors, the exteriors, the decoration, the combination of architecture and nature, the project, the final result of which consists in transposition of a model that lent itself to evoking the sacredness of a temple or a church to deliver it, adapting it, to a civil factory. The Guide offers multiple photographs by Tranquillo Cortiana which portray the exteriors and interiors of the Villa. Unique and unpublished shots like those of the ground floor and the monumental kitchen.
The guide and photographic documentation will lead the reader to a magical place that arouses, today more than yesterday, amazement and wonder.
